CNN hides from it, so MSNBC runs Drop Dobbs Ad

Dobbs liar

America’s Voice has been steadily working towards the goal of airing a Drop Dobbs ad on CNN. Originally, the target was to run the ad during CNN’s off-the-mark “Latino in America”, which featured no mention of good ole Leprosy Lou, for the record.

When CNN turned them down – hmmm… wonder why – they persisted and eventually started shopping the ad around on different networks. Last night, the ad ran for the first time on MSNBC.

By refusing to deal with Lou Dobbs and his nightly tirade against immigrants, Latinos, and people of color, CNN is quickly losing credibility as the “Most Trusted Name in News.”  As people become aware of the network’s one-sided coverage of immigration, they will start changing the channel — which is exactly what we did. America’s Voice is airing the ad on MSNBC!

Featured during the Rachel Maddow show, the ad ran in Atlanta, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. I didn’t get to catch it last night, but I’d love to hear from any of you that did.

The drum beat against Dobbs is steadily growing louder and CNN is clearly feeling the pressure – why else refuse to run the ad?

For more coverage of this, check out this post over at the America’s Voice blog with a roundup of posts.

And, if you haven’t yet, click here to tell CNN to tune into the ad and drop the hate!

I think that keeping Lou Dobbs and CNN’s feet to the fire is extremely important in our effort to rid the CIR debate of vitriol, propaganda, and spin. That being said, I saw on the news late last night that someone had taken a shot at Lou Dobbs house, and I mean a literal gunshot. Violence has absolutely no place in this debate, and I want to encourage my fellow advocates to join me in condemning this despicable act of hate and cowardice. The facts are on the side of pro-CIR, and we should argue the facts wholeheartedly. However, there is no room for escalation beyond intellectual arguments and sound policy advocacy.

Here is an excerp from CNN:

” On the radio show, aired by United Stations Radio Networks, Dobbs said that “a shot was fired at my house where I live” and that it followed “weeks and weeks of threatening phone calls.”

He said the hostility has “become part of a way of life, the anger, the hate, the vitriol, but it’s taken a different tone where they threaten my wife.”

“They’ve now fired a shot at my house while my wife was standing next to the car. It’s become something else, and if anybody thinks that we’re not engaged in a battle for the soul of this country right now, you’re sorely mistaken.”

Again, Dobbs deserves to be villified, and perhaps he should be fired from his job. However, we must join together and speak out against the escalation of violence, no matter who the guns are aimed at.
