FIRM Spotlight: VDLF – Wisconsin Includes Driver’s Cards for Immigrants

From our partners at Voces de la Frontera in Wisconsin (who are doing amazing work!)

We have wonderful news to report, last night the Joint Finance Committee voted to include  Driver’s Card for immigrants in the state budget.

This critical step in the legislative process was the result of the hard work that has been achieved collectively by members of the Coalition for Safe Roads and supporters, and Representative Pedro Colon’s leadership and the hard work of his staff.

Thank you to everyone who made calls, wrote letters, made their support known at the public forums on the state budget, and mobilized to the State Capitol to lobby your representative.

This was an essential victory, but we have two more steps to go:  the budget will go to the state legislature (Assembly and Senate) for vote and then to the Governor.

As many of you may already know, this victory follows in the heels of our previous victory for in-state tuition for immigrant students which passed last Friday by a similar vote of 12-4 on Joint Finance along party lines.

We have achieved our goal of getting both pro-immigrant provisions into the state budget and we must work hard to achieve the votes necessary in the next two stages of the legislative process.

Si se puede!

Congratulations to the folks in Wisconsin on these two huge victories. From the local level all the way to the national debate, the tides are turning in our favor on pro-immigrant legislation and comprehensive reform. Stay tuned, because next week will be packed full of actions, activities and chances to join in the fight.

Taxes are a hundred billion silent dollars a year, to underwrite the illegal impoverished immigrants in our nation.

We must all support Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) E-Verify (R-NC) Phone; (256) 533-0979, Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC ) Phone: (828)-252-1651;author of E-Verify and SAVE ACT, Nathan Deal (R-GA) (202) 225-5211; introduced the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2009 (H.R.1868) Rep. Paul Braun (R-GA) 706-447-3857; ,Kenny Marchant (R-TX) 972-556-0162; are also Sponsoring Birthright Citizenship Act to amend this misinterpreted law. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) (202) 225-2811 introduced, H.R. 2406, the Clear Law Enforcement for Criminal Alien Removal (CLEAR) Act of 2009. Reach all participants at: (202) 224-3121

Businesses pay–NOTHING–to the upkeep of the illegal alien occupancy of our country. NOTHING towards health care or Education. It’s all free to illegal aliens, without paying a cent into the system. The free traders have also assisted in bringing total collapse to our wilting economy, as you read the frustrated expressions of jobless Americans. Looking through tired eyes they see the padlocked industries that have been producing “Made in the USA” products for generations, now standing silent and empty. All Americans and legal residents need to march on Washington, like Europeans. We need a million man march, except make it 5-10 perhaps in 30 million man march as the African Americans did and protest the travesties of of our constitutional rights, that are fading under liberal judges interpreting law from the bench. No more exporting of jobs, no importation of cheap labor–the devious agenda of free traders. If we carry on–as is–we will wind up with OVERPOPULATION, shortages of resources, energy and water.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) says the flow of remittances to Latin America has doubled in the past four years, to an estimated $55 billion this year–and that’s just Latin America? What about China and other foreign countries? The grand-slam example is the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Economics writer Ed Rubenstein’s new report, “The Earned Income Tax Credit and Illegal Immigration: A Study in Fraud, Abuse, and Liberal Activism,” The author says immigrants collected about $12 billion from the EITC last year, the majority not paying a cent towards it. Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation found high school-dropouts-who headed households pay an average of $9,700 a year in taxes but collect an average of $32,138 a year in benefits. All this money in real dollars is procured from unaware taxpayers.

Jobless American workers should–REMOVE–Sen.Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Sen. Chuck Schumer and others listed on NUMBERSUSA website as they are conspirators, to defund the border fence, weaken or kill E-Verify, SAVE ACT, police enforcement program (247(g), and the Real ID act. or push for another AMNESTY Read these legislator nefarious resumes on pandering to OPEN-BORDER ENTITIES. Having just read the anti-immigrant, anti-Democrat, and anti-free-trader rant of Brittanicus, (and having just stopped shaking my head in disapproval and bewilderment), I’ve decided to post this as a small dose of reality. While I respect the right of this person to his or her own beliefs, since they have chosen to go public with those beliefs, I feel that the rebuttal of same is fair game.
First of all, in response to the comment, “Businesses pay–NOTHING–to the upkeep of the illegal alien occupancy of our country. NOTHING towards health care or Education. It’s all free to illegal aliens, without paying a cent into the system,” as I was reading that, I said to myself, “I bet this person has been reading the Tanton Group propaganda.” Sure enough, later in the post he advised readers to visit the NumbersUSA website. If this guy wants to read that outrageous propaganda, that’s his business. However, I advise him not to type when he is drunk on venom from drinking the Tanton Koolaid.
The notion that businesses pay nothing to the upkeep of illegal aliens, so to speak, flies in the face of real word macro-economics. If businesses employ undocumented workers, the vast, vast majority of those businesses deduct payroll taxes, just as they would for any worker. Secondly, the reality is that these businesses are extremely reliant on their employees to survive and compete. Any business that has undocumented employees on their payrolls, (and there are probably close to a million such small businesses in this country), are contributing to our overall GNP, and therefore our economy. The after tax wages that go to the undocumented, as well as the after tax wages paid to their legal fellow workers, gets spent several times throughout our economy, getting taxed at every stop along the way, (the multiplier effect – look it up). If we are talking about 7,000,000 undocumented workers, and therefore talking about several times that amount of workers that work with, and benefit from, the undocumented worker’s labor, we are talking about a significant percentage of our workforce. We are actually talking about tens of billions of dollars that these people contribute directly and indirectly to our tax base. To say that they contribute nothing is disingenuous in the extreme. In fact, 85% of eminent economists have concluded that the undocumented contribute more in taxes than they receive in social services, (74%), or have a neutral effect, (11%).
Ironically, his statement, “The free traders have also assisted in bringing total collapse to our wilting economy,” has some merit, hold the hyperbole. However, the presence of the undocumented workers happens to be one of the few things preventing further mass outsourcing of American jobs. In other words, they can pick lettuce here, or they can pick lettuce in Mexico. It is better for us that they pick the lettuce here, plain and simple. The same can be said for manufacturing. The undocumented have saved millions of manufacturing jobs, for both legal and undocumented workers alike, in this country. You can’t have it both ways, lamenting the undocumented for working here, and then blaming them for the outsourcing of American jobs. The opposite is true.
In closing, organizations like NumbersUSA, the Heritage Foundation, The Center for Immigration Studies, ALIPAC, and Californians for Population Stabilization employ paid professionals to develop anti-immigrant propaganda, and use that false information to influence people like “Brittanicus” into developing anti-immigrant leanings. As the immigration reform debate heats up over the coming months, I can only hope that enough Americans keep an open mind, and use logic to determine the facts for themselves, after hearing all of the evidence that is deemed reliable.
