GA: State’s strict immigration law goes unenforced – A year and a half after a law required every government in Georgia to sign up with the federal Homeland Security Department to verify the legal status of new hires, the Georgia Department of Labor has no idea what agencies or governments are complying.


NC: Sheriff’s Office teams with feds to deport illegal immigrants – The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office is on board with a federal program that pinpoints illegal immigrants and earmarks them for deportation.

MA: Mass. factory owner sentenced in immigration case – A leather-goods factory owner was sentenced to a year in prison Tuesday for harboring and concealing illegal immigrants at the plant agents raided in 2007.

AZ: New program aims to identify criminal aliens – Maricopa, Pinal and Yuma counties also are part of the program, called Secure Communities, developed by the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security and administered by ICE.
