Anti-Immigrant Measures will Appear on State Ballots in November

While the majority of America is focused on the upcoming presidential election – and all the punditry and controversy surrounding the campaigns at the moment – there will be other questions for voters to consider in November.

In Oregon, voters will decide if the state should limit access to ESL (English as a second language) classes for immigrants.

In Missouri, voters must decide if English should be the official state language.

In California, a ballot initiative would prevent unauthorized immigrants from receiving bail and would force sheriffs to inform ICE about detainees’ immigration status.

Limiting access to English classes, while complaining that immigrants won’t learn English?

Refusing bail so that migrants can be deported without access to legal counsel or a fair trial?

Let’s hope that each of these measures is defeated in November.
